ABOUT:
Wild Iris Folkart is the creative work of Shona Stacey. I am a folk artist from the Burin Peninsula, now living in Trinity East. I am inspired by every inch of this province and so thankful to be from here. The salty air fills my body with creativity, the strong winds make me feel alive, and the colors around me paint my eyes with stories of our unique culture.
I have been watching my family make folkart from an early age, though I don't think they would have considered it such. Rug hooking was done to keep their floors warm from the drafty houses. Quilts were made with scraps of fabric, resulting in the most beautifully colored beds, filled with handfuls of children! Wood was carved and turned to make organic kitchenware on which to eat their garden fresh food. It was a different time years ago, but I believe we can learn so much about happiness and the art of living in a simpler way from days gone by.
